The Sixth Joint Task Force of the European Society of Cardiology and Other Societies on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention in Clinical Practice, constituted by representatives of 10 societies and by invited experts, has developed the 2016 European Guidelines on cardiovascular diseases in clinical practice. The document has been developed to support healthcare professionals communicating with individuals about their cardiovascular risk and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and early modification of their cardiovascular risk.
The guidelines also provide tools for healthcare professionals to promote population-based strategies and integrate these into national or regional prevention frameworks and to translate these in locally delivered healthcare services, in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) global status report on non-communicable diseases 2010.
